Dendera Temple:
The Temple of Hathor, constructed mainly during the Late Ptolemaic period under Ptolemy XII and Cleopatra VII with later Roman additions, aligns with classical Egyptian architecture. Emperor Tiberius contributed to the front of the hypostyle hall.
The temple complex showcases depictions of Ptolemaic rulers, including a monumental relief of Cleopatra VII and her son with Julius Caesar, Ptolemy XV (Caesarion). The rulers are shown in traditional Egyptian attire, making offerings.
Hathor’s association with healing is evident in the sanatorium within the complex. Pilgrims sought cures by bathing in sacred water, receiving unguents from Hathor's priests, and staying in quarters, hoping for a healing dream.
After exploring the temple, we will return to Safaga Port.
